Notchtop Mountain (12,129') lies along the Continental Divide between Knobtop Mountain and Flattop Mountain and can be seen from the Fern Lake trail. It serves as a backdrop from Fern Lake. Another good view is taken from Bierstadt Lake on our Virtual Hike.
The geologic features of the top of this peak (notice the large notch in its peak) suggest this name to anyone that views it. The first to be credited with naming the peak was Dr. W. J. Workman, who built the Fern Lake Cabins, under the Notchtop. #
